Shri Shah said the Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri Biren Singh has done remarkable work in the last 3 years. There has not been a single shutdown in the last 3 years, which proves that people flourish under the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Shri Biren Singh has led Manipur on the path of development under the leadership of the Prime Minister, and has given a new identity to Manipur.

Shri Amit Shah said the entire North- East is very closePrime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s heart, and the Prime Minister says Eastern India and Western India are the two arms of Mother India. Western India has developed, but without the development of Eastern India, India’s development is not possible. After 2014, there has been hugeamount of development in the North East under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi. The North-East was previously known for separatism and different insurgent movements, but over the past six-and-a-half years many organizations, one after the other, have laid down their arms and the remaining ones too, having faith in the leadership of Modi ji, will join the mainstream.

New Delhi: RB, under its flagship Dettol ‘Banega Swasth India’ in partnership with Primus Partners today, launched a unique life skills program for kids, “Birds and Bees Talk” (BBT). The curriculum was launched today for children between the ages of 10-19 in Manipur in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh and Chief Secretary, Shri Dr. Rajesh Kumar.

This comprehensive sexuality education curriculum will help to make children informed with the help of accurate, fact-based and age-appropriate information on growing up, sexuality and life skills amongst adolescent kids.

Launching the program, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. N. Biren Singh said, “We are proud to introduce one of its kind, life skill training module for adolescent children in partnership with RB’s Dettol ‘Banega Swasth India’ campaign. It is heartening to witness organizations responsibly taking the lead towards contributing to the growth of young minds. Our vision is to work towards transforming the lives of people in India, and this program is a testament of a better and brighter future for the leaders of tomorrow.”

The Birds and Bees Talk program will be executed and implemented across Manipur in Government and Recognized Private Schools to ensure the maximum reach and beneficiaries. The Manipur government is making sure that apart from its various healthcare and public benefiting programs education should also reach to all sections of the society. The state of Manipur is an ideal state to kickstart this program in North East as the education policy in the state is reformative and has emerged as the education hub in the region.

Commenting on the partnership initiative, Mr. Ravi Bhatnagar, Director External Affairs and Partnerships, Reckitt Benckiser Health AMESA said, “Education is the catalyst to social change and one of the most critical areas of empowerment for children. India needs to focus on comprehensive education which includes life skills as an important part of the holistic curriculum. Currently, it is not a part of the usual school curriculum and most schools, teachers and parents are not qualified to provide the required information to children. With the focus towards betterment of children, we are proud & honored to embark this partnership with the Government of Manipur to launch BBT, a comprehensive life skill program for adolescent children. Through this curriculum, we aim at creating awareness around the importance of life skills so that every adolescent grows up in a protected environment.”

As stated by UNICEF, the life skills program is an important instrument in shaping the social, economic, physical, and mental well-being of the adolescents. To help children with life skills, schools & supporting Government bodies should believe in a “growth mindset”. They understand that progress takes time and they keep trying until they succeed.

Addressing the issue, a group of organizations led by Primus Partners have designed a comprehensive curriculum aimed at improving knowledge, awareness and behaviour among children. Interestingly, the curriculum is in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework and the recently announced New Education Policy 2020, as it follows the guiding principles of the Adolescence Education Program framework.

Under this curriculum, teachers from the enrolled schools will be appointed & equipped with full program essentials including teaching methods & lessons. The training of these teachers will begin shortly to help them better train kids.

The unique design of the program comprises of 27-hour lessons allowing the schools to teach in a staggered format, spread over the year. The program will help in developing key skills like critical thinking, decision-making and analytics, amongst children.

The 27 lesson plans and student workbooks comprise of animated characters, storytelling, poems, real-life scenario studies, group discussions, simulations, brainstorming and reflective learning. They especially focus on imparting knowledge in an engaging and interactive way to help students understand the physical and emotional changes taking place in their adolescent years.

To sustainably manage COVID 19, few palliative care experts in Kerala came together to form an informal task force (Pallicovid Kerala) to develop an e-book on guidelines for integration of palliative care with COVID-care. Aimed at healthcare professionals in their tireless battle against the pandemic, the algorithm-based e-book derived from evidence-based guidelines and advisories from around the world helps enhance their existing skill sets.

Having undergone the basic training, Maibam Ranita Devi, Nurse, NHM, Community Health Officer, Health and Wellness Center, Awang Wabagai, Imphal, Manipur, said, “I have learned a lot as a Community Health Officer with holistic approach on how to take care of patients with incurable disease and Covid-19 by giving compassionate care. Ethical issues, goals of care, and triage in the context of Covid19 was one of the important things to understand which I have learned from this Echo online session and I suggest to please continue this type of Echo session in future also. I’m very pleased and thankful to the ECHO online session being conducted by Pallium India and

PalliCovid Kerala”.

Dr. Nepuni Athikho, National Fellowship in Palliative Medicine, Senior Consultant, Head, Family Medicine, Pain & Palliative Care, Christian Institute of Health Science and Research, Dimapur, Nagaland, said, “Palliative Care on Covid-19 gave a very structured e-learning module and online teaching by experienced faculties in the field of palliative care. The course which elaborates on the holistic aspects of care, both psychosocial-spiritual suffering of patients and family of covid-19 infected patients was very helpful and practical. The course changed my whole perspective to covid-19 in a very positive way. I have terminally sick patients whose care have greatly benefited from this course.”

Applauding the efforts of the Pallicovid Kerala Team, Dr.HM Iqbal Bahar, MD Dip Palliative Medicine (UK), HoD (Palliative Medicine), Cachar Cancer Hospital, Silchar, Assam said, “As a healthcare worker while treating covid patients, often there is a natural tendency amongst us to divert all our focus in curing the patients. Amidst this pandemic, a series of online learning sessions on “Palliative Care in Covid-19 patients organised by Pallium India was very rewarding and was the need of the hour to address this gap in this humanitarian crisis. I had the rare opportunity to attend most of the learning sessions. It enhanced my understanding of the concept of offering Palliative services in this unique group of patients. It made me realize that we can do so many things for mitigating the sufferings of these patients. I extend my heartiest respect to the organisers and the faculties for taking this humanitarian initiative to dissipate this knowledge in this remotest part of my country.”

Sessions are conducted on the ECHO platform and participants meet for five days, 1hr 15min daily to go through a lecture, case study and open discussions. This rapidly equips them to practice palliative care, relevant to meet the needs of the patient and their families who are going through suffering and anticipatory grief.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Manipur government, Dr. M R Rajagopal, Director, Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences said, “I congratulate the Manipur Government in seeing the value of this training and encouraging the service providers to participate and learn how to be more compassionate and take informed decisions for treatment and self care as well. This simple solution if adopted by all governments will immeasurably bolster our healthcare force for the current and future emergencies.”
